Process Industry Consulting Ltd is a new company that has been formed to "develop education programmes for the Process Industries".

Its founder and Managing Director, Gareth James, is a Chartered Chemical Engineer who gained extensive operating leadership experience during a 31 year multinational career with the oil major BP. During that period he:

• Managed 2 top tier COMAH petrochemical sites
• Developed the BP Group Operating Management System
• Developed the BP operating leadership and process safety training
• Formed the UK Chemicals Industry Skills Network Group - 2003
• Formed Cogent SSC Chemicals Advisory Council - 2005
• Was Chairman Humber Chemical Focus - 2005-7
• Was a Director of Cogent Sector Skills Council - 2006-9

Based in Humberside, Process Industry Consulting Ltd will design, develop and deliver customised education programmes for companies within the Process Industries. The company specialises in building operating leadership and process safety management capability.

An example of such an education programme is the Working Higher project which has appointed Gareth to be the industry champion for Refining and Petrochemicals. Working Higher is a collaborative project between Cogent Sector Skills Council, the Physical Science Centre and the University of Hull. Funded by the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) under their Employer Engagement Fund, it aims to develop a suite of flexible, work-based Foundation Degrees in partnership with a University consortium and employers.

The University of Hull has been selected by Working Higher to be the lead university for the development of foundation degrees for the Refining and Petrochemical industry.

Gareth will be working with Refining and Petrochemical industry employers to understand their needs. Then, he will work with the University of Hull to deisgn and develop a foundation degree framework that meets those needs.
